Users are concerned about illegal downloading:

Baltimore, MD- May 3, 2010- Proximity, a Gen Y on demand media strategy group has announced that today Megan James, a research analyst for Proximity, will be presenting at the Burkshire Marriott Conference Hotel in Towson on Wednesay, May 12, 2010. The topic "The Future of Illegal Downloading" will be presented.

Over the years, the number of people who obtain their music illegally has drastically increased. Gen Y has not shown any signs of wanting to change the way they get their music because they live in a society where it is standard to download music illegally. Proximity has come to the conclusion that it would be next to impossible to put an end to this mess and that the music industry must adapt. Other alternatives must be found, rather than trying to fight the battle. Included in the presentation will be ways to encourage Gen Y to support artists through other means rather than solely purchasing music, and other alternatives of obtaining music. The topics that will be included are as follows:
  • Gen Y can support artists by attending concerts and purchasing merchandise.
  • Many artists put music on Myspace and allow users to listen to tracks for free or purchase the tracks/albums.
  • Supporting business advertising on sites such as LimeWire, where a large majority of Gen Y obtain their music.
